North Korea Successfully Tested Hwasong17 ICBM

On March 25th, 2022, North Korea revealed that it successfully tested its deadliest intercontinental ballistic missile. The Hwasong -17 were firstly shown at a parade in 2020, where even military analysts was shocked by its massive size. Dot The launch on Thursday was the first of its kind. Since 2017, the country has conducted ICBM tests.

ICBM Are Long Range Missile

Long-range missile capable of hitting the United States are known as ICBMs. North Korea is prohibited from testing them, and has previously been sanctioned for doing so.

North Korean Media Said

According to state media, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally guided Thursday's test, and the weapon was critical in deterring nuclear war. The experiment had been widely anticipated, and it is part of North Korea's ongoing efforts to improve its nuclear deterrent. Militaries in Japan and South Korea monitored the missile launch on Thursday. According to Japanese officials, it travelled to a height of 6000 kilometres before crashing into Japanese waters after more than an hour of flight. Its altitude exceeds that of a previous missile, the Hwasong15, which in a series of tests conducted by North Korea in 2017 reached an altitude of 4500 kilometres.

Hwasong15

Estimates suggest that Hwasong 15 could have reached and over 13000 kilometres on a typical trajectory, putting any area of the continental United States within reach.

ICBM Designed To Carry Multiple Warheads

An Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) with several warheads has been developed. The missile system, which is considered to be the world's largest mobile ICBM capable of carrying multiple warheads, would be able to travel higher and further than this. The international community has foreseen this.

Missile Shown for the First Time In October 2020, Kim Jung Un first displayed this missile during a military parade, and state media repeatedly stated that the pause in long-range missile tests was over. The next stages are also familiar.

Pyongyang's Willingness

Pyongyang is serious about being identified as a nuclear state and a member of the exclusive nuclear club, and most observers believe more tests are on the way. After a spate of missile launches in recent weeks, the latest test comes as little surprise. Some of which were said to be elements of an ICBM system by the US and South Korea. Pyongyang claimed that these were simultaneous satellite launches.
